New College Lanarkshire
Fire Door Replacement & Remedial Works
Work Type
Fire Door Surveys, Remediation & Replacement
Value
~ £300,000.00
Duration
12 Months
Overview
Adman Int was appointed by New College Lanarkshire to deliver a large-scale programme of fire door replacement and remedial works across its occupied academic estate. The project formed part of the college’s wider fire safety improvement and compliance programme and required a structured, safety-led approach to maintain day-to-day operations across a busy further education campus.
The works were delivered across the Coatbridge Campus and Motherwell Campus, including the Motherwell Main Building and Engineering Block, both of which present complex operational constraints due to specialist teaching spaces, workshops and high student movement.
Scope of Works
The scope comprised fire door replacement and remedial works across multiple live academic buildings, covering in excess of 300 fire doors.
Works delivered included:
-
Replacement of existing fire doors across teaching, circulation and specialist areas
-
Installation of new FD30 and FD60 certified doorsets
-
Remedial upgrades to existing fire doors where replacement was not required
-
Reinstatement of firestopping around door frames and disturbed substrates
-
Upgrades to door closers, intumescent strips, cold smoke seals and associated ironmongery
-
Digital asset tagging, photographic records and installation reporting via Fieldwire
All works were delivered in accordance with manufacturer guidance, tested systems and current fire safety regulations.
Key Challenges
Delivering works across live college campuses presented a number of operational challenges, including:
-
High daily footfall from students, staff and visitors
-
Maintaining compliant escape routes and compartmentation at all times
-
Working around teaching timetables, examinations and specialist engineering workshops
-
Managing noise, dust and access within sensitive learning environments
-
Coordinating multiple work fronts across campuses and buildings
Our Approach
Adman Int adopted a highly structured and safety-led delivery approach tailored to the demands of a live education environment. Works were carefully phased and sequenced to ensure fire protection measures were never compromised and disruption to college operations was minimised.
Key measures included out-of-hours and off-peak working where required, temporary segregation of work areas, and the use of external cutting stations to reduce noise and dust within teaching and workshop spaces. Daily dynamic RAMS were reviewed and updated to reflect changes in building usage, with regular joint inspections carried out alongside Estates representatives to maintain high standards of safety, cleanliness and compliance.
Clear communication was maintained throughout the programme, including daily coordination with Estates teams, room-by-room scheduling aligned to teaching timetables, and appropriate signage and pedestrian management across all affected areas.
Outcome
The programme was successfully delivered with a total contract value of £250,000, achieving compliant fire door replacement and remediation across more than 300 fire doors while maintaining a safe, operational campus throughout. New College Lanarkshire was provided with comprehensive digital documentation, photographic evidence and asset data to support ongoing fire safety compliance, inspection regimes and future maintenance planning.
This project demonstrates Adman Int’s capability to deliver complex, high-volume fire door programmes within live, high-occupancy education environments, balancing safety, quality and operational continuity.
